The
Southern States Football League Officials Association
Welcome
to the SSFLOA. This page is dedicated to those interested
in becoming members of the 2004 SSFLOA officiating staff.
In
2004, fourteen SSFL franchises will be serviced by the SSFLOA.
In addition, subordinate games will be booked through the
league office including women's minor league football, law
enforcement football and AFA national minor league games.
The SSFL is the largest league for minor league football in
the southeast United States.
The
SSFL rules are strictly NFL rules with minor differences.
Seven man field crews and a clock operator are assigned by
the Supervisor of Officials. The league will utilize seven
full time crews that will work together throughout the season,
each with one week off. The league will also secure supplemental
officials that will be used on an "as needed" basis
and will also be secured as ECO's.
In
2004, the SSFL will play on the weekends. New in 2004,
games may be played on Saturday afternoons, Saturday nights
and / or Sunday's.
The
2004 schedule starts on January 31st and run's through April
10th. Playoffs will continue throughout May with the 2004
championship, (tentatively scheduled for the Orlando Citrus
Bowl.)
To
date, areas of the state that will be utilizing SSFLOA officials
are:
Jacksonville
(2 franchises), Leesburg, Orlando, Brooksville, Tampa Bay,
St. Petersburg,
Venice,
Cape Coral, Naples, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, New Port Richey
and Lake Wales.
To
be considered for the SSFLOA, an applicant must meet the following
minimum criteria:
1.
Minimum of seven (7) years of documented varsity high school
experience
(preferance given to those who are current or fomer collegiate
officials)
2.
Available to officiate on the weekends from January through
May with few restrictions
3.
Knowledge of NFL rules and basic seven (7) man mechanics
4.
Ability to travel up to 100 miles to officiate (this may include
two games in a weekend of
which the SSFLOA will provide lodging accommodations.)
5.
Medically and Physically fit to work
6.
Ability to pass both state and national criminal background
check
7.
Ability to attend the 2004 SSFL workshop to be held in Orlando
this December
8.
Positive recommendation from current local or collegiate association
To
date, the SSFLOA has received numerous applications. The Supervisor
of Officials and his staff will conclude on appointments by
October 15, 2004. It is strongly suggested
that if you intend to apply, your early submission of the
registration form is encouraged.
The
SSFLOA will provide each official with the following:
1.
NFL style shirt with assigned number on front and back
2.
2003 NFL rule book and officiating manual.
3.
Full insurance
4.
Travel compensation for officials traveling an unusual distance
5.
On-site game fees, secured dressing area
6.
Full travel, lodging and per-diem for officials working the
2004 championship
7.
Training and support from the SSFLOA staff
